Job Overview
Rising’s event manager will be responsible for the full execution of 2 major fundraising events per year (currently virtual, moving to hybrid as appropriate).
Reports To
The Rising Event Manager will report to Rising’s Executive Director, Carmel Jud, with dotted-line coordination with Rising’s volunteer CMO and marketing team.
Location
Remote home office. In the Bay Area and near Santa Cruz, CA is a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities and Duties
- A creative, inquisitive, collaborative self-starter with a high sense of ownership, who can work effectively as an individual and as part of a team (including volunteers) to lead the management of all facets of planning and executing Rising’s 2 annual fundraising events
- Work with Rising’s Executive Director and other stakeholders to identify and communicate event goals (especially fundraising and audience goals), and gather other requirements
- Research, develop, and document event strategy, approach, and plan to achieve goals
- Support creation of sponsorship packages for event sponsor sales, and ensure sponsor benefit deliverables are met
- Develop, communicate, and manage event timeline and run-of-show
- Develop communications plans for audience development, fundraising, and sponsorship sales, working closely with other marketing volunteers to execute
- Make recommendations to support decisions on ticket pricing
- Manage “on-site” (virtual or in-person) logistics and attendees; work with other volunteers to ensure all event components are properly executed
- Research venues for hybrid watch parties, as warranted, and possible eventual return to fully in-person events
- Ideate and apply creative techniques and programs to achieve fundraising goals (e.g., an Ambassador program)
- Manage speakers and other program elements such as entertainment
- Board-level reporting of event plans and goals, as well as any support needed to ensure goals are met
- Develop and manage event budgets
- Attend weekly meetings as needed
Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, event management or related field is strongly preferred but will consider the extent of experience if necessary.
- Required experience:
- Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible professional experience managing events in the nonprofit, philanthropic or public sector.
- A successful and positive track record working in culturally and ethnically diverse communities.
- Knowledge, skills, and competencies:
- Virtual event management experience using Zoom (or similar), and ability to plan for multi-location hybrid events
- Proven results with audience development, sponsorship, and fundraising goals
- Experience with in-person event management for up to 200 people
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Strong project and program management skills
- Excellent facilitation, listening, oral and written communications skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated personal integrity and commitment to this work and the ability to engender trust, credibility, confidence with a variety of constituencies
- Knowledge of community organizing and group facilitation is desirable
- Computer literacy in the G-Suite and Microsoft 365 environments
- Experience with LinkedIn event tool a plus
- Experience with Live Impact a plus
- Certifications
- CMP certification a plus

We think Rising is pretty special and know it’s making a big impact, and we’re looking for a writer to help us tell the world why. Rising’s Content & Communications Manager will create disproportionate buzz, awareness, and growth for Rising Worldwide through creative and compelling copywriting of emails, newsletters, social posts, blogs, website copy, periodic press releases, and more — all infused by Rising’s visionary narrative (below) and leveraging best practices for content and communications that perform.

Responsibilities and Duties
- A creative, inquisitive, collaborative self-starter with a high sense of ownership, who can work effectively as an individual and as part of a team (including other volunteers) to manage all copywriting and editing for Rising’s marketing content and communications
- Collaborate and coordinate with executive director and marketing team on content requirements; Attend weekly marketing meetings
- Write marketing emails that drive engagement and conversion in support of growth goals such as Fair Trade product sales, recruitment of Artisan Event hosts, attendance at webinars and events, fundraising, and more (approximately 2-4 per month)
- Write content for monthly newsletter, planning topics with Executive Director, marketing, and program teams
- Write recommended content for social posts associated with campaigns
- Write landing page and website copy as needed
- Support script development for major events as needed
- Draft personalized communications for major donors, including notes of appreciation and impact updates, etc. as needed
- Help us launch a blog (by Jan 2022), managing external contributors
- Ensure consistency and conciseness of messaging to build increased impact for Rising; bring a tone of hope and inspirational energy to our writing; help us push our voice forward and upward
- Incorporate the essence of Rising’s brand narrative into all communications; help ensure any external marketing / content service providers are trained in Rising messaging
- Document key messaging and help keep current
- Deliver against other copywriting requests as needed
Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field is strongly preferred but will consider the extent of experience if necessary.
- Required experience:
- Minimum of five years of professional writing experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic or public sector
- Experience applying practical marketing strategies and best practices to writing
- Experience writing about women’s economic empowerment, diversity, social impact, global philanthropy, survivor leadership, etc. is strongly desired
- A successful and positive track record working in culturally and ethnically diverse communities
- Knowledge, skills and competencies:
- A skilled and versatile wordsmith with excellent written communications skills for marketing content of all types; copywriting experience for performance marketing and / or fundraising a plus
- Strong attention to detail and quality control, but an understanding that perfection is the enemy of good, and that quick turnarounds are vital
- Demonstrated interest in issues related to the advancement of women
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated personal integrity and commitment to our work and the ability to engender trust, credibility, confidence with a variety of constituencies

Ensures key awareness, engagement, and fundraising goals are met for Rising through creative and high-performing multi-channel marketing campaigns that drive product sales, memberships, host recruitment, event registrations, and more.
Reports To
The Rising Digital Marketing Manager will report to Rising’s Executive Director, Carmel Jud, with dotted-line coordination with Rising’s volunteer CMO.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Build integrated digital marketing plans that achieve Rising’s objectives and goals
- Prepare and execute all Rising outbound email campaigns (approximately 1 / week), leveraging copy from our volunteer copywriters, or others
- Develop and maintain campaign calendar, and ensure all stakeholders are aware of their responsibilities
- Contribute to email list growth and database management
- Manage the preparation and send off the monthly newsletter, coordinating with a copywriter.
- Manage Rising’s Social Media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, set up Instagram), leveraging copy and design from other volunteers, but also skilled enough to handle on own if needed
- Set up new automated email programs in support of our Rising Reps sales and member relations
- Recommend and execute paid campaigns when appropriate with our limited funding, and/or leverage donated ad credits
- Implement and manage cross-channel measurement tools to capture lessons learned, publicize progress, and communicate major milestones
- Recommend improvements to the website to improve engagement and conversions
- Help develop digital marketing policies including content review and approval, and governance policies
- Help evolve marketing tech stack and infrastructure for increasing performance and scale
- Manage vendor relations for marketing projects as needed
- Create and maintain a dashboard of key metrics for marketing initiatives
- Maintain close view on market trends as well as partners’/ competitors’ marketing initiatives
- Attend weekly marketing meetings
Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree in marketing or related field is strongly preferred but will consider the extent of experience if necessary.
- Required experience:
- Minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible professional digital marketing experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic, or public sector.
- Experience in B2C and eCommerce is highly desirable
- A successful and positive track record working in culturally and ethnically diverse communities
- Knowledge, skills, and competencies:
- A creative, results-oriented, collaborative self-starter with a high sense of ownership, who can work effectively as an individual and as part of a team (including volunteers) to execute digital marketing campaigns across channels
- Strong attention to detail and quality control, but an understanding that timeliness is critical
- Strong email marketing skills (currently we use Constant Contact, but migrating to Hubspot)
- Ability to handle simple design creation using Canva or Photoshop and work with volunteer designers for more complex needs
- Comfortable leading by influence across the team to be successful, working with both volunteer and paid staff
- Excellent facilitation, listening, oral and written communications skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously; Strong project and time management skills
- Demonstrated personal integrity and commitment to this work and the ability to engender trust, credibility, confidence with a variety of constituencies
