STORY
The Mayan women in the cooperative making these scarves were once controlled by an all-male Board of Directors. The women decided to form their own subgroup Board of Directors because they wanted to be in charge of their own destinies. When an American woman met these women, she set up classes for them to learn to read and write and increase their market reach for selling their beautiful scarves.
